One of the biggest question marks entering the 2024-25 season was just how well the Tyler Herro and Terry Rozier duo would mesh. In the Miami Heat’s preseason games, it has looked promising.

The backcourt pairing looks comfortable playing off each other, and their fast-paced dynamic has opened doors for the Heat offense. Coach Erik Spoelstra emphasized improving on that end of the floor heading into training camp. The results quickly show that the philosophy benefits Herro and Rozier.

Miami has attempted at least 40 3-pointers in each of their preseason games. That type of volume has helped bring the best out of the offense, particularly from the shooting skills of their backcourt. They have each held their own on the defensive end as well, with Herro showing a lot of activity in getting into the passing lanes and creating deflections.

When asked about playing alongside a point guard of Rozier’s caliber, Herro didn’t hold back down from expressing his confidence, telling Bally Sports, "We both believe we're one of the best backcourts in the league."

For Heat fans, this is the type of mentality that should be encouraging to hear. The Heat envisioned an elite duo and considerable upgrade in the backcourt fire power in pairing Rozier with Herro. Both players are three level scorers and have a plethora of offensive versatility.

There were some worries about redundancy in their games, but the preseason success has helped shed some light on that notion. The key to this duo working out comes with sacrifice. They can create offense for themselves and others with the ball in their hands, but the efficiency in finding a way to play off each other has been effective.

The talent in their individual games has never been a question. More so in how they can play together is what has raised room for doubt. Fortunately for the Heat, it has looked like they are slowly but surely starting to figure it out. Herro and Rozier are big pieces in Miami’s core four alongside Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo. Injuries limited the opportunity to build cohesion as a top heavy group during the 2023-24 season.

Now that health is finally back on the team’s side (for now), the Heat are excited to see the full potential from this roster with their new backcourt. And Herro has doubled down on that notion.
