Victor Wembanyama just raised the Heat’s urgency to land Giannis

Victor Wembanyama hasn't even hit his prime, and he looks like he's going to be a generational problem in the NBA. However, the Miami Heat may have the right idea in how to curve it, but it will require acquiring Giannis Antetokounmpo this summer.

And watching Wemby dominate his way to potentially his first NBA Finals, the Heat's pursuit of Giannis just got that much more important.

Because if the Heat are going to have any shot to compete with Wemby and the San Antonio Spurs (or even the Oklahoma City Thunder, for that matter), they're going to need a superstar who could theoretically go toe-to-toe with Wemby.

Despite being five or six inches shorter, Giannis just happens to be that player. On both ends of the floor. And perhaps the only one in the Association that has that ability.

The Heat could be cooking up a plan to stop Wemby

In fact, as a whole, there's a reason to like a potential Giannis-Bam Adebayo frontcourt against Wemby. But that's getting way too far ahead of ourselves. First things first, the Heat needs to cement its path toward Giannis. And, especially as has become quite obvious over the last few weeks, that won't be easy.

The trade market for Giannis is expected to be vast. Even though there's no real sense of what that is going to eventually look like, that's the expectation.

Giannis is one of the best players in the world when he's healthy, and he's right in the middle of the prime of his career. There's no reason why he shouldn't be the most sought-after player in the trade market this offseason.

For the Heat specifically, their desperation for a star player doesn't just bolster their relevance in the Eastern Conference, but it may very well give the team their only shot to stop the Spurs in the next five years.

That's why their current pursuit of Giannis just got that much more important. Without landing Giannis, it's hard to envision how the Heat can make another move this offseason that would move the needle all that much.

Giannis, even though it has its own concerns, would be one that the rest of the league, including Wemby and the Spurs, would have to take notice of.

Pat Riley is under immense pressure this offseason

So as the pressure continues to mount on Pat Riley and the rest of the Heat's front office, Wemby (and the Spurs) just took it to an entirely different level.

The Heat's front office already had its work cut out for it in its pursuit of Giannis. Wemby's performance in these NBA Playoffs just made it that much more important.

There's no question that Miami is all-in on Giannis this summer. If they can pull off such a move, it would create an even more intriguing offseason for the Heat. But, if they can't, it will leave the franchise with more big-picture questions than answers.

And Wemby's current rise, at least to a certain extent, will be one of the bigger reasons why.
