While most think the Heat will draft a guard, keep an eye on forward Rasheer Fleming

As we have highlighted, most mock drafts think the Miami Heat are going to target a guard next month. Given the state of the roster, Miami would want a playmaker who can score at will.

But the Heat are also keeping all their options open, and this week, they worked out a prospect who will be a tempting option at No. 20 even if he doesn't fill an immediate need on the roster.

Rasheer Fleming has a private workout for the Miami Heat

The Miami Herald reported that representatives from the Heat traveled to California to watch Rasheer Fleming for a workout. Walter Clayton Jr. and Will Riley were also part of the workout.

Fleming is a 6'9" forward from St. Joseph's that the most recent Yahoo mock draft has going at No. 25 to the Orlando Magic.

What jumps out for Fleming in his film is his explosiveness. He can put someone on a poster anytime he touches the ball near the paint, and while it's not Zion Williamson's levels of athleticism, he is probably one of the better athletes in this draft class.

His game is translatable to the NBA because he also shot 39% from three this season while attempting 4.5 threes per game.

He is also highly active on the defensive end and a willing shot blocker who averaged 1.5 blocks per game, along with 1.4 steals per game.

Outside of the fact he played in the A10 Conference, which is a respectable conference but only qualified one team for March Madness in 2025, the biggest knock against Fleming is that he isn't going to beat you off the dribble if he catches it at the top of the key.

So, at the NBA level, teams may blitz him to take away the three if they don't fear getting burned.

Does Fleming fit with the Heat?

As mentioned, Yahoo has Fleming going to the Magic at No. 25, and ESPN has him going to the Nets at No. 27, so there is a good chance he will be available when the Heat draft at No. 20.

There is a lot to like about Fleming, and he will probably carve out a role as a solid role forward in the NBA, but given the current roster makeup of the Heat, it's hard to say he makes sense as the guy Miami should target.

Fleming would essentially be slotted into the same role that Bam Adebayo occupies at the four spot when Kel'el Ware is on the court to play center. Assuming Ware continues to develop and occupy the role of the true center, Adebayo is going to create a log jam for Fleming to get more than 15 minutes a night.

Now, if Adebayo were involved in a trade for some guy named Giannis, that's a whole different discussion. But for now, if Miami is looking to address immediate roster needs, it would be surprising to see them wind up with Fleming.
