While at Duke, Justise Winslow drew comparisons to Dwyane Wade. Luckily for Winslow, the rookie was drafted by the Miami Heat and has Wade to teach him, well, to be Wade.
Winslow spent time after Saturday morning’s practice working with Wade on his post moves, something the veteran guard has mastered during his time in the NBA.
As per Jason Lieser of the Palm Beach Post:
"“As his career develops, hopefully he’s able to do multiple things on the floor, but right now there’s gonna be certain things (Erik Spoelstra) wants him to do, and some of those things I’m good at,” Wade said. “I’m just passing down knowledge to someone who I think could be good at things that I have strengths at. It’s gonna take a while, but if he figures it out at 21, he’s ahead of the curve. I figured it out at like 27.“All of us are where we’re at because someone before us helped us. They helped by letting us sit there and watch film with them or having conversations with them. If he’s a student of it and he really wants to know, I’m a pretty decent teacher in certain areas.”“When you’re young, you just want to get down there and go,” Wade said. “You’ve gotta have patience. The best players in the world have all the patience in the world and they make you do what they want you to do. He’s gonna have to learn. It’ll come with time.”"
Winslow said he already has a couple of go-to moves, and that he’s looking to add to his portfolio.
"“I have a couple and I’m comfortable with those, but I’m trying to build off that and trying to perfect some other ones,” Winslow said. “I’m trying to learn and expand my game down there.”"
Wade, 33, has made an effort to pass along his expertise to the next generation of NBA players, including Minnesota Timberwolves youngster Andrew Wiggins. In Winslow, he has the perfect protege to take under his wing. If we’re lucky, Winslow will absorb those lessons and take the torch when Wade retires.
