Tyler Johnson
Tyler Johnson, whom the Heat recently signed to a four-year, $50 million contract having matched an offer sheet made by the Brooklyn Nets, is a unique player and someone the Heat clearly value, having invested this sum of money into someone who was undrafted and has played just 68 games in two seasons.
Coming to the Heat via the D-League, Johnson has been renowned for his hard work and passion, working tirelessly to improve himself in every aspect. This past season saw him average 8.7 points per game on 49 percent shooting, including 38 percent from three-point range.
His season was cut short by injury and coincidentally, it was Richardson who used this time to establish himself and demonstrate his future potential.
Johnson has the ability to be a combo guard in that he is a capable ball-handler, and was one of the more reliable outside shooters on the team last season. He did, however, struggle when given the sole point guard duties whilst starting five games last season in Dragic’s absence .
The Heat will be hoping that over time that this will develop, as will all aspects of his game. Johnson should fit nicely alongside Dragic in that he’s not a ball-dominant guard and has the versatility to both play in the open-court and create in the half-court.
