If early impressions count for anything, Wayne Ellington and the Miami Heat could prove to become a great partnership. A consummate professional throughout his career, Ellington has played on five teams over his seven year career.
Signed to a two-year, $12 million deal in the offseason, Ellington will be competing with a number of players on the Heat roster for the playing time made available by the departure of Dwyane Wade.
And early signs, albeit in the preseason, are looking promising. With three-point shooting an area of concern for the Heat, Ellington was signed within days of the free-agency period opening in July. Despite having bounced around the league, Ellington possesses a quality many teams are searching for in the modern NBA – three-point shooting. A career 38 percent three-point shooter, the Heat have clearly made this a priority. The Heat shot just 34 percent as team last season from downtown.
Along with Ellington, the Heat have also brought in Dion Waiters to compete alongside incumbent guards Josh Richardson and Tyler Johnson for minutes at the 2.
