The 2016-17 Season

Although fellow shooting guard Josh Richardson has been sidelined, the Heat have certainly been keen to see what Ellington has to offer this season. Having the confidence and backing of the coaching staff is heartening for any player. And Ellington will certainly be welcoming this opportunity. Through four preseason games, Ellington has attempted 7.3 three-pointers per game. Very much like fellow new-comer Luke Babbitt, it’s safe to say Ellington has the license to shoot.

The Heat have made a clear emphasis for an increased pace of offence and crisp ball movement. Having an array of versatile players on the court at all times greatly assists this approach. With Spoelstra having a liking for playing three-guard lineups in the preseason, this should likely see Ellington receive consistent playing time this coming season.

Having experienced a combination of playing as a starter and a reserve through his career, Ellington is suitably prepared for whatever the Heat and Spoelstra have in store for him. And if Ellington can reduce the amount of poor shooting nights and increase his level of consistency, the Heat and Ellington could prove to be a terrific partnership.
