The Miami Heat are bringing back a familiar face by signing Larry Drew II, who has been in their training camp twice during the Big Three era.

The Miami Heat’s training camp roster is now up to 18 players with the signing of guard Larry Drew II, with whom the club is already familiar.

The Heat announced the signing of Drew, 27, Tuesday. He has previously been in Miami’s training camp in 2013 and 2014, and played for the Sioux Falls Skyforce in each of the last four seasons.

In 96 career games with Sioux Falls, Drew averaged 10.8 points, 7.8 assists, 3.4 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 33.6 minutes while shooting 47.6 percent from the floor and 41.6 percent from 3-point range. He also holds the G-League single-game record with 23 assists.

This summer, Drew won a gold medal as part of the United States team at the 2017 FIBA AmeriCup. He appeared in five games and averaged 4.6 points, 5.0 assists.

His lone NBA experience came during the 2014-15 season when he appeared in 12 games with the Philadelphia 76ers. He averaged 3.8 points and 3.7 assists in 18.3 minutes per game.

Clearly, Drew is a familiar to the Heat franchise, and it makes sense they’d bring him back for another training camp.

While his chances of making the team are slim, the Heat don’t have a lot of depth at point guard. Besides Goran Dragic, Miami will use combo guards like Tyler Johnson, Dion Waiters and others to run the offense when Dragic isn’t on the court.

With an impressive training camp, Drew could make himself an option for a call up should Dragic miss substantial time due to injury. He’d have to prove a more reliable option than Derrick Walton Jr., a rookie point guard on a two-way contract.
