Miami Heat 1-on-1: What does the future hold for Justise Winslow?
Lastly, what role do you see him excelling in next season?
Ebrahim: If I was Spoelstra, I think I’d try to put the ball in his hands early and often. Get him attacking the basket on pick and roll situations and eventually throwing it out to the open shooter. It doesn’t look like his outside shooting is going to improve too much, but if his decision-making and ball-handling can be refined, then at least Miami knows what to do with him going forward (which would be to extend him to a similar deal as Richardson). I always felt like Johnson coming to Miami would be a good example for him to follow, because their games are very similar. But I still have hope for Winslow to have an impact much like Andre Roberson does for the Thunder, who fell from top five in defense to somewhere near the bottom of the pack just by his absence.
Nurse: Extension or free agency? Is he even worth cutting into the future cap for or not really? Those are the questions being asked about Winslow this summer. All the more reason why this season is going to be the most important one at this stage of his career. This is his fourth year and he has to show more than promise. No more excuses about his age or wishful thinking about still being young enough to have the upside to become Butler, Draymond Green or Leonard. It is show and prove time and unfortunately I only see Winslow excelling to the point of being a player with decent hustle stats.
It seems like Heat Nation is ready for more from Winslow.
