On Monday, the Miami Heat guaranteed Duncan Robinson’s contract for the 2019-20 season. Robinson will almost certainly have a rotational role next season.

On Monday, the Miami Heat took the step of guaranteeing Duncan Robinson‘s $1.4 million salary for next season. According to Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel, the deed is done:

July 15th was his guarantee date, so it kicked in automatically as we hit Monday. As Winderman notes, this almost certainly indicates that Robinson will be on the Heat roster next season, unless of course he is involved in a trade.

Robinson had a solid Summer League outing, playing in seven games, averaging 29.5 minutes and 16.3 points per game. He shot 42.9 percent from the floor and 33.9 percent from 3-point range with 8.9 attempts from behind the arc per game.

With the Miami Heat up against the $138 million luxury tax apron, which serves as a hard cap thanks to the sign-and-trade they pulled off with the Philadelphia 76ers for Jimmy Butler, they are in need of cheap help and plenty of it. Robinson is on a minimum contract for next season, making him especially valuable as the Heat work to stay under the hard cap.

Duncan Robinson’s contract for next season is non-guaranteed until opening night of 2020-21, when $1 million guaranteed kicks in. The remainder of his $1.663 million salary becomes guaranteed on January 10th of 2021.

Robinson has taken a long and winding path from Division III school Williams College, through the University of Michigan via transfer under the tutelage of coach John Beilein, to a guaranteed season with the Heat organization.

He  thrived last season with their G-League affiliate, the Sioux Falls Skyforce, scoring 21.4 points per game in 33 appearances, and his hard work is about to pay off in the form of a bit of security for the coming year.
