Miami Heat legend Dwyane Wade is done with basketball, or is he? Who knows, but either way, he seems to be gearing up for his annual “D. Wade Invitational”.
Miami Heat and NBA legend Dwyane Wade played out his farewell tour on last season. “One Last Dance” was the named attached to this tour and it was supposed to be the ceremonious end to an illustrious NBA career for the future Hall of Famer.
While there is surely still a spot for him on the Miami Heat’s roster if he ever had a change of heart, there haven’t been any recent indications from him or anyone closely associated with him that says he might be interested in lacing them up for one more dance. Regardless of whether he is doing it on the NBA hardwood or not though, Flash still seems to be into the game of basketball.
According to a recent tweet from the 13 time NBA All-Star, he is getting set for his now annual “D.Wade Invitational”. According to the video posted on social media, it is a camp-like setting where current professional basketball players come together to be in an atmosphere with other pros, train, work out, scrimmage, and build comradery amongst the group. Here is the actual tweet from Father Prime’s account.
In the above clip of last year’s invitational, you can see NBA players like Jimmy Butler of the Miami Heat, free agent Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul of the Oklahoma City Thunder, Austin Rivers of the Houston Rockets, CJ McCollum of the Portland Trail Blazers, Jahlil Okafor of the New Orleans Pelicans and Delon Wright of the Grizzlies just to name a few. It appears to be a camp full of pro’s to help get them ready for their upcoming seasons.
While this is surely just another way for the Miami Heat legend to get some hoops and bonding time in with pals, mentees and colleagues alike, it is also another valuable and ingenious way of expanding his brand outside of the literal scope of the NBA. With Chris Paul and Carmelo Anthony being two of his closest friends along with two of his other good friends and mentees in Jimmy Butler and Justise Winslow, both of Wade’s Miami Heat, you can see just how all this comes together.
It is a good thing to know that although he may be hanging up his professional sneakers, he won’t be that far away from the game of basketball. Hey, playing at his own invitational with his pals and teammates may even spark something in the guy who still looked as though he had quite a bit left during last season. Either way, Miami Heat faithful will hold out hope that maybe he will reconsider and come back, but he should at least have an entertaining invitational regardless.
