In today’s edition of Miami Heat Hot Topics, we’ll catch up on the stories we’ve written so far this past week here at All U Can Heat. Among our topics, Kelly Olynyk will miss the World Cup for Team Canada thanks to a bone bruise in his knee, we look at Justise Winslow‘s shooting sustainability, and we hit some more bold predictions and FiveThirtyEight’s own forecast for the Heat.
Without further ado, let’s get caught up on the happenings of the Miami Heat.
Kelly Olynyk to miss FIBA World Cup for Team Canada:
While Team USA has lost countless stars and supporting players to defection, the Miami Heat has lost its two candidates for the FIBA World Cup in less fortunate ways. While Bam Adebayo was cut from Team USA, Kelly Olynyk will miss the competition in China later this month due to a knee bone bruise. While the Heat expect him to be back for the start of the NBA season, there is some ambiguity on whether he’ll be back in time for the start of training camp.
A bold prediction for Pat Riley in 2019-20:
A man who has already had a bold summer, Pat Riley is next up in our Bold Prediction series. Kenneth Wilson takes on the task of predicting a bold move for the Miami Heat’s active and aggressive team president for the coming season.
FiveThirtyEight projects big improvement for the Heat in 2019-20:
Sportsbooks have been less than impressed by the moves the Heat have made this summer, but FiveThirtyEight’s CARMELO projections have a rosier view on the moves made by Pat Riley. In fact, FiveThirtyEight is the most optimistic forecast we’ve seen for the Heat. Time will tell whether they end up being correct.
Will Justise Winslow maintain his shot from deep?
On a team bereft of above-average shooters, Justise Winslow was a breath of fresh air last season for the Heat. After a woeful first couple of seasons from behind the arc, he’s shot 37.7 percent from 3-point range over his last two seasons. Mind you, this is on low volume and a sample of less than 400 3-point attempts, but it’s promising. Kenneth Wilson takes a look at the long-term viability of his recent performance.
Can Tyler Herro end the Heat’s Rookie Of The Year drought?
It’s hard to believe the Miami Heat have never had a Rookie Of The Year, but it’s true. In fact, Dwyane Wade was the only Heat rookie to ever finish in the top three in voting. In a top-heavy field, does Tyler Herro have a chance to break that streak? Stefan Alvarez, our newest writer, takes a look.
