In our ongoing Miami Heat Hot Topics series, we’ll take a look at why this team is really good, and we’ll examine whether Dion Waiters’ career is over.

In today’s special mid-week Christmas edition of Miami Heat Hot Topics, we’ll catch up on the stories we’ve written so far this past couple days here at All U Can Heat. Among our topics, we take a look at why this surprising team is so good, and we discuss whether Dion Waiters‘ NBA career is over.

We also investigate whether or not the best outcome for the Heat would be to stand pat and make no moves this season.

Without further ado, we’ll take a look at the past few days that were here at All U Can Heat.

Do you really want to know why this team is so good?

Our Kenneth Wilson wrote on the surprising performance of the Heat in the first third of the season. Often a team producing wins comes down to their superstar player simply blowing everybody else out of the water, but that hasn’t exactly been the case with Jimmy Butler. It’s been an ensemble affair, largely from some unexpected sources.

Using NBA 2K20 to predict the Heat vs Jazz:

Eventually, surely, NBA 2K20 will get one wrong. One day, certainly, but it wasn’t Monday, when the game simulated the correct result for the fourth straight time. In the games we’ve simulated, the Heat are 3-1, coming up on the right side of the equation for each simulation. We can’t take credit for the Heat winning some of these tough matchups, but we can feel good about the fact that we are bringing you accurate looks into the future. We are currently investigating other uses for this power, but in the meantime, correct Heat results will do.

Has Dion Waiters dealt a fatal blow to his own career?

It’s hard to imagine a worse start to a season than Dion Waiters has had. He’s been suspended three times without pay already and has yet to play a game. His already low trade value may be the lowest of any contract not just in the NBA today, but in recent memory. The Heat don’t appear eager to have him around, they can’t get rid of him, and other teams probably wouldn’t even want him for free at this point. ESPN’s Bobby Marks said his career may be over, and he may be closer to right than wrong about that.

What’s wrong with standing pat with what we have?

Make a trade to push the Milwaukee Bucks in the Eastern Conference? Stand pat and do nothing? What is a team to do when blessed in surprising fashion to be much better than expected? Maybe given the options available, waiting to see what develops when Goran Dragic and Justise Winslow return to the lineup is the best bet.
