The answer is pretty simple, but we will do our best to give a few details on the matter here. For starters, Jrue Holiday seems like the most natural fit considering that the Heat have been operating without a true “lead guard” for much of the season and the fact that Jrue is a preeminent two way player in the league, meaning he plays defense really well which is obviously something the Heat hold high esteem about.

The issue with Holiday is this though. Does he shoot it well enough? Also, you have to ask yourself, does Holiday’s break you down off the dribble / ISO style of basketball fit well enough with what this Heat team does in order that he may be a benefit and not a disruption or hindrance?

That goes likewise for Holiday too in that would his effectiveness be hindered by what the Heat do? These may seem like tedious questions, but they are very relevant and important as it wouldn’t make sense to make a move if it isn’t truly a step forward.

In continuing with the theme of a big reveal, the next name that was mentioned that doesn’t really jive well with what the Heat do is DeMar DeRozan. As we all know by now, DeRozan is a throwback as far as the way he operates on the offensive end.

To be direct and to the point, his game doesn’t fit nor make the Heat a better team. At best, to acquire DeRozan would be a neutral move.

It would probably be a negative though because it would likely see the movement of Kendrick Nunn, who although because of his lack of size compared to DeRozan doesn’t offer the defensive abilities or potential, does offer everything that DeRozan can do offensively. Yea, he hasn’t done it at quite the volume that DeRozan has across his entire career yet, but when you do a comparison based on salary to production, Nunn is the better pick in that cross-section.
