With the Miami Heat and NBA season officially set to restart, FanSided’s NBA division decided an expansion draft might be fun. Here’s why we protected who we did.

The Miami Heat are a team to keep an eye out for as we look to tip off the NBA’s restart. With more than a few teams thinking that they have a realistic chance at winning the title, things will be as tense as ever inside of the NBA bubble.

With as tight as it will be once the season actually starts with meaningful games, a real bubble would have no choice but to pop. Let’s hope that isn’t the case in all actuality though, as this bubble is for the safety of all involved.

With all that in mind though, FanSided’s NBA division thought that this period of time, one in which we are on the precipice of witnessing an unprecedented event in the NBA’s history, was a perfect time do conduct a hypothetical expansion draft.

Consisting of two imaginary teams, the Kansas City Burnt Ends and the Seattle Sea Lions, the real teams around the division were tasked to protect three players, meaning they couldn’t be drafted by either of the two teams above. Well, for the Miami Heat, we chose Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, and Duncan Robinson. Here’s why.

When you look at the names chosen here, the two All-Stars on the team are pretty self-explanatory. They are simply the two best players on the team and elite players in the league.

The Miami Heat are getting set to tip it off in Orlando but in Fantasy Land, however, FanSided decided to do an NBA expansion draft before it all got started.

There is really no fancy explanation needed. Bam Adebayo and Jimmy Butler are elite players in any conference and again, in general, when you consider the entire league. That’s why they were protected, plain and simple.

The one that may need a bit of explanation, although people are starting to come totally around, is Duncan Robinson. The current 97th ranked player in the league, after going undrafted out of Michigan by way of his initial Division III college, is a sharpshooting flamethrower and one of the best from deep in the entire league.

This is actually being generous, as we would go as far as to say he has been the best shooter in the league this year, especially when you consider the fact that Stephen Curry hasn’t played a ton, while Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson haven’t played at all. That’s why he was protected.

Most will call him a specialist, but when you have a specialist that is as special as he is at what he does, he’s more than just a specialist. He’s what we would truly call an expert.

He’s one that makes nearly half of the nearly nine three-point attempts he takes per game. Again, that’s just special.

So, in case it wasn’t deadly clear before we went on this little rant, it should be now. That’s why in the FanSided NBA expansion draft, we decided to protect Jimmy, Bam, and the very special, Duncan Robinson.
