Why aren’t the Miami Heat starting Tyler Herro? He’s been one of their best options there.
Tyler Herro should be the starting guy beside Duncan, Jimmy, Bam, & Jae
Over the last few games and even across the first few, where Kendrick Nunn wasn’t with the team, we’ve seen different iterations of the starting lineup. For the record, I don’t mind Goran there in that first unit, but there’s two things to that.
Goran Dragic can get buckets anywhere, but I’d much rather him on that second unit where he has free reign over the basketball. He has been so effective and such a weapon for the Miami Heat there all year that I want him there for as long as he’ll remain in Miami, for the next three years even if that’s the deal it takes to keep him.
This isn’t about him though, but that was the first thing. The second thing is this.

Tyler Herro plays better according to the talent around him. What this means is that he plays much better with first unit guys than he does with second unit guys. The proof is in the pudding or the footage at least.
As we have watched him all year play with second-unit guys, he never had the all-around performances of the magnitude that he has had in the bubble. The only major difference in the bubble is the amount of minutes he’s played with first unit guys, as opposed to second unit guys.
Whether that be because of better quality players to finish his passes or to take more attention away from him to find his own shots, this has seemed to be the case. Whether it be the most recent Phoenix game or how he was the leader during the second half of the Oklahoma City game, he was playing with better talent for the most part.
Yea, Bam and Jimmy sat, but everyone else besides Jae Crowder, who had bumped knees earlier in the game, was playing. That’s why I believe that moving forward, Herro should be a starter.
