Miami Heat: Tyrese Maxey is looking more and more like he fits the culture
The Miami Heat have a choice to make and soon. With the NBA Draft on Wednesday, they should take Tyrese Maxey fast if he’s there at 20.
The Miami Heat head into the 2020 NBA Draft with a goal in mind. They want to get an impact guy at 20 who can compete and make an impact as quickly as possible.
With Milwaukee foiling their plans to land Jrue Holiday, it may press them into doing something that they hadn’t considered before. While no rookie will or could make the impact that Jrue Holiday could or would have on this team, they must look to do something to offset what their plans may have been there.
If that is the thinking… or even if it isn’t, it was a 50 percent chance that they would be looking guard anyway in the NBA Draft. If they have had the chance to speak with, see, or virtually visit Tyrese Maxey of Kentucky, then those chances should only increase.
The guy just seems to fit the culture. The Miami Heat have had great recent success with Kentucky products and he looks like he could be the next in that line.
For some reason, what John Calipari does down there translates to the NBA and quickly, providing the prospect lands in the right system. Of course, we can use the Miami Heat, but it happens in other places too.
Look at Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and what he was able to do so early in Los Angeles. Look at Jamal Murray and how he began to blossom early in Denver.
We don’t have to mention the drippiest draft pick from last year’s draft. Tyler Herro was not only one of the best rookies this season and in the bubble, but he was one of the best players in the entire NBA Bubble.
Tyrese Maxey has a chance to be one of those types of guys. Let’s look a little deeper at why.
