The Miami Heat thrive in one particular area of the game – defense. Adding Ben Simmons to the lineup would solidify them as, quite possibly, the best defense in the NBA.

Despite Simmons’ issues on the offensive side of the ball, his stellar defense is undeniable. He is an absolute freak of nature in that aspect.

At 6-10, he can guard any position on the court. Simmons possesses the quickness to keep up with guards, but also the size to bang down low in the post.

Inserting him into the Heat’s starting five would create an elite defensive lineup. Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, and Simmons would combine to be an unstoppable force on that end of the floor.

Many Miami Heat fans would question his offensive abilities, and rightfully so. However, his contributions on that end of the floor could end up being solid as well.

They were already top ten in the NBA last year in assists per game (26.3). Adding Simmons would only improve their ability to move the ball, as he is great at creating opportunities for others.

Ideally, the Miami Heat could play Simmons at power forward next to Adebayo and insert a point guard into the lineup that can shoot the ball.

This would allow both Duncan Robinson and whoever the point guard is to get tons of open looks. Butler and Simmons are two of the best playmakers in the NBA.

Simmons could play at the elbow and act as a secondary ball-handler from the team. He would improve the Heat’s ball movement even more.

Although fans everywhere may be hesitant to sign Simmons, don’t overlook what he brings to the table other than shooting. He could play a really solid role with the Miami Heat.
