The Miami Heat are on the verge of welcoming their newest young crop of hopefuls into the fold of the franchise that could be their first NBA home. While they didn’t own any picks, at all, in this past Thursday’s NBA Draft, they did what they do best as it all ended.

Hitting the lines of prospects that didn’t hear their names called, the Miami Heat left Thursday night with a slew of talented, interesting, and potentially helpful pieces in tow. Among those were: Javonte Smart of LSU, a 6’4″ point guard, AJ Lawson of South Carolina, a 6’6″ wing, RJ Nembhard of TCU, a 6’5″ guard capable of manning either spot, DJ Stewart Jr. of Mississippi State, a 6’6″ wing, Micah Potter of Wisconsin, a 6’10” big, and a personal favorite, DeJon  Jarreau of Houston, a 6’5″ point guard.

The Miami Heat landed quite a few prospects after this past NBA Draft, but not enough to go away from Dewayne Dedmon.

Although Potter is a big body, standing nearly seven feet tall, he is the only one of the several that they brought in that actually could man the big position. With that, it leaves one to wonder if the Miami Heat will address that on the open market… or if it’s a tell-tale sign about the future and fate of a Miami Heat fan-favorite from last season.

Hopefully, it’s the latter. If the guys that the Miami Heat brought in after the NBA Draft are any indication of how they plan to approach the offseason as a whole, then Dewayne Dedmon looks like a pretty safe bet to be back with the team.

Not only needing his sheer size, Dedmon actually added a jolt of energy to the team after being infused into the roster and furthermore, again after actually being infused into games and the lineup. He brings a certain type of raw energy and want to that the Miami Heat can only hope to pull out of or manufacture in most professional players.

Dewayne Dedmon gets it and he wants it for every minute he’s on the floor, it seems. So, atop the fact that there just weren’t enough minutes made available to him beside Bam Adebayo last season, the fact that they didn’t give any other big men solid looks after the draft might spell good things for Dewayne Dedmon’s chances of remaining in Miami.
