Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat have agreed to a four-year, $184 million contract extension, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

The 6-7 forward was due for an extension after signing with the team a few seasons ago. He has already helped lead the Miami Heat to an NBA Finals run back in the 2020 season.

According to Charania, Butler will make $40.5 million in year one, $43.8 million in year two, $47.0 million in year three, and $50.3 million in year four. It’s a lot of money, but it allows Miami to keep their franchise player on the team moving forward.

The deal will see Butler stay with the Miami Heat until he is 36 years old. Those numbers will correlate to his 33, 34, 35, and 36-year-old season in the league.

Butler has been nothing short of fantastic for the Heat so far. His energy and intensity completely revitalized Miami’s franchise.

He and Bam Adebayo have been playing at an All-Star level for the Heat for the last two seasons. Though neither made the All-Star team last year, both were named to the All-Defensive Second Team.

There will be some concerns regarding Butler’s age by the end of his contract. However, this will extend the window Miami has to win a championship with the current core.

Miami Heat fans everywhere have fallen in love with Jimmy Butler during his time in South Beach. Re-signing him was a no-brainer for the front office, and they wasted zero time getting a deal done.

He will be back in Miami next year, and Pat Riley has plenty of more moves in mind. With the other rumors being reported in previous weeks, there should be more high-tier free agents headed to Miami.

Butler’s max extension was the first move reported in regards to the Miami Heat this offseason. With the whole summer in front of us, expect a lot more to be reported very soon.
