Takeaways from the start of the Miami Heat season: Tyler Herro & Defense

Tyler Herro is the real deal

As if Tyler Herro hasn’t gotten enough love yet, he’s about to get some more. He has been nothing short of amazing so far this season for the Miami Heat.

He’s the team’s second-leading scorer behind only Jimmy Butler. His ability to come off the bench and simply produce success for the team has been great.

Herro may not be shooting the best from deep, but he’s making up for it by carrying the bench unit. He’s also been doing a great job of rebounding, as he’s tied for second on the team in that category.

The national media is starting to jump on the Herro bandwagon once again. Shoutout to the people who never jumped off in the first place.

Defense, defense, defense

The Miami Heat defense has been the best in the league so far, and it’s not particularly close. As of now, they are holding opponents to below 40% shooting… from the field.

That is an absolutely ridiculous statistic and one that is not being talked about enough. It may only be four games into the season, but that’s absolutely insane.

Going into the season, a lot of people had them pegged as a defensive beast, but no one could have predicted this. They are on pace to finish as the league’s top defense.

That was always the goal with this team as it’s currently constructed. So far, things are working out beautifully on that end of the floor for the Miami Heat.
