The Miami Heat did not make a significant splash in the frenzy that was the NBA Trade Deadline. While Miami did trade away KZ Okpala, this was the only transaction for Pat Riley and the rest of the evil geniuses over there.
This seems to suggest that the Heat are comfortable with where their roster sits for the season. With Caleb Martin‘s contract likely filling in for Okpala, the Heat’s roster is nearly set in stone.
Only one question continues to loom over Miami. What is going to happen with Goran Dragic?
The ‘Dragon’ has been working out in Miami while under contract with the Toronto Raptors for the majority of this season. Now that he has been shipped to San Antonio, the Spurs will reportedly buy him out straight away.
This means that Dragic will hit the buyout market in the coming days. Could he make his way back to Miami and take another swing at a championship?
It’s worth a shot and an ask, right? Either way though, the Miami Heat are just fine.
In a day that saw the Nets, 76ers, and Celtics improve, the Miami Heat remained a neutral observer. Was that the correct move for Pat Riley and Company?
So yes, while the Heat did not make any moves at the NBA Trade Deadline, they still have a talented and top-seeded roster. That’s why the front office probably did not need to make any blockbuster trades like many of their Eastern Conference counterparts.
In a day that saw the Nets, 76ers, and Celtics improve their chances at a championship by amending their rosters, the Heat remained a neutral observer. We’ll have to see over the final 30 games if that was the correct call or not.
For now, Heat fans should rest easy in the fact that a not-so-healthy Miami Heat team has found itself atop the East for the better part of a month. This means that an All-Star level coaching staff is getting the best out of each and every player on the roster.
Besides, that’s what a staff led by two of the top coaches in NBA history does. That would be the Godfather himself, Pat Riley, and one of his most studious pupils, Erik Spoelstra.
Again though, while there may not have been any new faces coming over in a deadline trade, the current roster should be more than enough to please Heat fans. If it still isn’t enough though, then the potential return of the ‘Dragon’ is sure to put a smile on the faces of the Miami Heat faithful.
Keep your fingers crossed! And If that doesn’t work, keep your eyes on the NBA buyout market.
