The Miami Heat just made another signing. No, it wasn’t some new face or guy that you have never heard of.

The guy that they signed to a standard contract deal on Tuesday is a guy that has been stepping up and making big plays for the Miami Heat all year long. In the absence of some of their regular guys, due to both injury and COVID protocols, Caleb Martin has emerged as a regular rotational guy and perhaps, the best two-way player deal ever done.

While that is subjective and would require a little bit more research, here is something that isn’t. He is now a regular member of the Miami Heat and on a deal that he did nothing less than completely earn.

While it’s a great get for the Miami Heat, for his contributions, their strong depth, and how they were able to manage the cap or roster gymnastics of it all, this move is all about one thing.

The Miami Heat have been one of the deepest teams all season and Caleb Martin has been a huge part of it. They got him signed to a standard deal Tuesday.

Here is the most important aspect of it all.

When it comes to a player on a two-way contract, they are not playoff eligible and even with the extended parameters of this season’s two-way deal expansion due to COVID protocols.

With as big a part as Martin has been in what the Miami Heat have done this season, they had to make sure that they were able to keep him in the mix going into the postseason. It’s also a mere showing of good faith and what he means to them.

While he should continue to be essential to what they have going on this season, this, inevitably, gives the Miami Heat a leg up when it comes to securing him beyond this season. At times this year, he has been an equitable Jimmy Butler fill-in.

No, he hasn’t been the all-around complete guy that Jimmy Butler is when he’s going nor was he able to completely mimic the production, however, he has been able to fill in when needed to give them a huge boost if Butler was unable to go.

Caleb Martin is finally signed to a regular contract and rightfully so. Now, all there is to worry about with him is making sure he’s healthy for a deep playoff run.
