With the Miami Heat coming off a good victory over the New York Knicks on Friday night, they are right back at it on Saturday. For starters, you typically don’t count a win over a 12th seeded team as “good”, however, the circumstances surrounding it were pretty deep.
They were coming off the All-Star break, so the rust excuse was in full effect. The New York Knicks were home, though there were Let’s Go Heat chants that rung off at multiple points in the game.
The Miami Heat did struggle out of the gate and allow the Knicks to climb back into it, before ultimately winning by 15. Jimmy Butler struggled to make shots, along with Duncan Robinson.
This is also all while RJ Barrett proceeded to score a career-high 46 points. There were a few reasons why the Miami Heat shouldn’t have been able to pull this one out and especially with as much separation as they did.
Even for all of that though, they were supposed to win and that is just what they did.
The Miami Heat have been jousting back and forth with Chicago all year long. The next few days present a prime opportunity to get a leg up though.
That win gave them a lead over the Chicago Bulls again, who they’ll see Monday, for the top seed in the East at the moment.
That’s where the conversation lies today. Though the Bulls play Memphis on Saturday and the Heat take on the Spurs, both could win or lose.
The Heat should win, going away again, as they are the better team and the Spurs are coming off of the first game of a back-to-back as well, a double-overtime type. The Bulls, on the other hand, have a tough Grizzlies team to contend with.
Let’s say they both win though. If that is the case, that would once again give the Miami Heat a lead over Chicago.
Then there’s Monday though. With the two teams facing each other, the Miami Heat have a prime opportunity to take a whole game to a two-game lead over the team that’s been jousting with them all year long.
The Miami Heat own the main tiebreaker at this point betwixt the two, being up 2-0 in the season series. However, with the Bulls facing a tough Memphis team and then having to contend with the Heat on Monday, a team they’ve yet to beat this year, this is a prime opportunity for the Miami Heat.
As always, they must handle their business though in order for it to happen. With the dudes on that roster though, you can be sure they are aware and will do just that.
