The Miami Heat are three games into their preseason and are 2-1 through that process. After beating the Memphis Grizzlies in comeback fashion on Friday night, they can feel pretty good about themselves.
While the Grizzlies would play their starters and regular rotation right through until the end of the contest, the Miami Heat would be without a slew of guys and that included all their best players. Here was a list of the guys that didn’t play on Friday.
But you want to know who would play? That would be Duncan Robinson and that was all the Miami Heat heat needed.
With a ton of plays like this, Duncan Robinson would, indeed, do “Duncan Things” all night long.
As the Miami Heat progress through their preseason, many things are being revealed. And one of them is the newfound diversity in Duncan Robinson’s game.
In fact, he would even do some stuff traditionally considered non-Duncan Things and that is the story here.
Losing his starting spot to Max Strus last season, many had already written Duncan Robinson off as far as his future with the Miami Heat. On top of a theoretical slump last season, though he still remained one of the best shooters in the league but just not up to his lofty standards that got him $100 million dollars, there was said contract to consider when considering his play.
Always deserving of a chance to bounce back and along with the revival of his shooting prowess, diversifying his game on the offensive end was always going to be the next step in his development as a player. It just so happens that in this situation, as well, that is probably also the key to illuminating his path back into the Miami Heat’s regular rotation.
He would drive to the hoop several times against Memphis, hit his threes, and even show you a little of the midrange game off the dribble. Duncan Robinson was truly in his bag.
And that bag or at least, the diversity that he may have tucked away in it, is what will likely be the key to his resurgence this year. Let’s just hope it continues to translate and carry over into the regular year.
