The Miami Heat finally made a move before the coming NBA Trade Deadline. Sending Dewayne Dedmon back to one of his former teams, the San Antonio Spurs for which he last played 76 games in the 2016-17 NBA season, along with a second-round pick, they are finally going to try to shake things up—perhaps.
Well, that’s the notion that you have to take from this deal, especially when you look at what they sent out. Sending out a second-round pick, an asset to a team like the Miami Heat that constantly creates regular rotational players or better out of undrafted free agents and second-rounders, the Miami Heat have to have something else in store here.
Creating a roster spot and cap space, it seems, there has to be a move they already have in mind. And if there isn’t any particular deal question for them at this moment, then why would they send out an “asset” to get this deal done?
The Miami Heat finally made a move! Shipping Dewayne Dedmon to San Antonio, but giving up a 2nd rounder to do it, this deal screams ‘more’ for Miami.
You could look at the many negative comments surrounding Dewayne Dedmon and his play with the Miami Heat this year, but how valid is that? There are those out there who wanted to blame everything on him and his presence.
For what seems like team ineptitude was often placed at the feet of the big man. Was he as good as he was in his first year with Miami?
No, but was he the core reason for the ineptitude at times? Absolutely not.
In any event, it’s good that he’s gone now because now—there are no excuses. And that goes for the Miami Heat, the players, and especially those that support the team.
Again though, what’s most important here is the first factor mentioned. The parameters of this deal just “scream” that there is more to come.
Well, hopefully, because if not—they just made a deal for the sake of making one. The worst kind.
