The Miami Heat have finally made a move to improve their roster in a major way. Trading away Dewayne Dedmon at the NBA Trade Deadline, with him now residing in Philadelphia with the 76ers, they would only receive cash in the deal with the San Antonio Spurs that saw them send out the big man and a second-rounder.
Well, just a few weeks later and just days before the league returns to play from the NBA All-Star festivities in Utah and a break, the Miami Heat are now looking to add two names to the roster. And though only one of them is a big name, they are both big human beings.
The Miami Heat are apparently on the verge of adding two bigs, Cody Zeller and Kevin Love, above-average upgrades that thrust them right back in the thick of it.
While Cody Zeller is certainly an important piece, giving them more reliability and experienced depth in the big-man ranks that they have sorely missed this season, they also added an impact guy to those ranks. And that would be one, Kevin Love.
Though at an advanced age and stage in his career, what he is still very effective at is shooting the three, rebounding that basketball, and going for easy buckets in the paint or near the rim. And ironically enough—or appropriately enough, where both apply here, those are areas that the Miami Heat have been sorely deficient in this season so far.
But with the addition of Kevin Love and not to mention Zeller, the Miami Heat have proceeded to sure up their big man rotation to a point where it is no longer a weakness and in fact, could lean more towards strength than anything.
It also allows the Miami Heat to play a true big forward next to Bam Adebayo with Love’s ability to shoot, while it creates the opportunity for Caleb Martin to go back to more comfortable roles for him. There is just so much to love about adding Love and Zeller, other than the fact that just like that—the Miami Heat are right back in the thick of things.
