Superstars are not the only targets the Miami Heat need to consider this summer, especially if they fail to land any of Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kevin Durant, LeBron James, Kawhi Leonard, Ja Morant, Donovan Mitchell, and whoever else with a big name might be made available.Â
There are other players out there who don't carry a superstar cache that the Heat should be considering, whether they land a big name or not, because depth will still be all the more important as Miami will be expected to lose some in a trade.
So while the likes of Antetokounmpo or Leonard will continue to drive the speculation and rumors connected to the Heat, there are plenty of non-superstar free agents they should look at, and at least three of them would benefit the Heat in huge ways if the money was right and the fit looked appealing to them.
The Miami Heat would get a ton of help from any of these three NBA free agents
CJ McCollum, SG
A Heat partnership with CJ McCollum only has potential if he and the Atlanta Hawks can't work out a reunion, and the chances of that happening are certainly possible. McCollum has never hit free agency before because he's always worked out extensions beforehand, but this year could be different.
If it doesn't work out with the Hawks, the Heat could emerge as a potential destination for McCollum. It wouldn't be a cheap move by any means, but McCollum on the Heat would instantly do so much good for them. The veteran was a key piece in the Hawks' resurgence this season and into the playoffs, and his mental strength and leadership are a perfect fit for Heat culture.
Coby White, G
Coby White offers the Heat another offensive scoring punch, and would also give them much-needed help at point guard if the Heat are going to lose Tyler Herro this summer. The Charlotte Hornets could bring White back, but if they don't, White is a prime candidate for the Heat.Â
White's versatility as a guard and ball handler is something the Heat doesn't have in abundance. Plus, after facing White on the Chicago Bulls for six years, they know exactly how dangerous he can be when he's hot. If the Heat are looking to add offense, high IQ, and versatility, White is the ideal target.
Rui Hachimura, PF
The Los Angeles Lakers are much like the Heat this offseason; all eyes will be on them as they anticipate their next moves. The Lakers aren't sure what James will do, and Austin Reaves' future there is undecided, although the Lakers want him back. So what about Rui Hachimura?
Hachimura provided a ton of life for the Lakers this season, and even more so in the playoffs. He was hot from everywhere on the floor, and was instant offense when he was on the floor. It's rumored the Lakers want to re-sign Hachimura, but given their plan to build the team around Luka Doncic, it's unclear where Hachimura fits into that. The Heat should consider him in that case, not to mention another case: he ranked fifth in the league in 3-point percentage this season.Â
