Nearly a month after the Miami Heat struck a blockbuster deal for Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bam Adebayo, the team's heart and soul, has finally given his first reaction to the move. And it was as buttoned up as you'd expect.
Bam didn't elaborate about Giannis much, but did give his first comments since the Heat acquired Giannis at the ESPYs. Bam kept it all about winning.
"Biggest thing is we want to win. You can always be aligned with somebody who is about the right stuff and wanting to win."
With this small comment alone, you can hear the respect that Bam has for Giannis. Considering he's one of the five best players in the NBA when healthy, that shouldn't come as a surprise. And once Giannis officially suits up for the Heat, you'd think that admiration is only going to grow.
The Heat is set to officially introduce Giannis
Less than 24 hours after Bam's official first comments about the Heat's new superstar, Miami is set to welcome Giannis with his introductory press conference Thursday, July 16, at 3:00 p.m.
After roughly a month since the Heat and Milwaukee Bucks originally agreed to the deal, Giannis will finally get his moment in the sun (no pun intended). Considering Giannis has done little to acknowledge the trade to Miami, this will be the first time Heat fans will be able to hear from the superstar forward.
The fans have been waiting for this moment since the trade was official, and you can bet the front office has been waiting for this day as well - the point where they can take their victory lap after years of doubt that had been building around the fan base.
In the coming weeks, especially once Giannis speaks, I'd imagine we're going to hear more from the rest of the team, too.
I'd have to imagine that many of Giannis' new Heat teammates, if not all, have elected to take the backseat here when it comes to acknowledging the Giannis move until he gets to speak first. That's why once this introductory press conference takes place, you'll see the team get more and more comfortable speaking about the move.
To a certain extent, it did feel as if there was some of that going on with Bam when speaking at the ESPYs.
Soon enough, though, things will officially shift for Miami. And much of that will depend on how these two stars, Giannis and Bam, end up leading the franchise next.
