Bam Adebayo kind of shrugged off LeBron James' move to sign with the Philadelphia 76ers over the Miami Heat in his first comments since the decision. Even though Bam would've liked to see LeBron sign with the Heat, it's pretty clear that he isn't losing much, if any, sleep over it.
"There ain't no disappointment...Like I told him in the message, I'm going to bust his a--.’ So, it's going to be an exciting season. I'm excited for the East. We got a whole new turnaround in the East. So, it's going to be exciting this year.”
Even as Bam gets honest here, this is not nearly as surprising as perhaps some thought it would be. After all, such a decision doesn't hurt as much with Giannis Antetokounmpo already on the team.
Bam, nor the Heat, can be upset with LeBron's decision
Had that not been the case, who knows what Bam's reaction would've been to the Heat's summer as a whole. However, it's difficult to be disappointed in anything the Heat does this offseason after the move for Giannis.
No matter what else happens over the next two months, it's going to be tough to complain about the Heat's front office. They got a superstar for Bam to play with, and that was easily the biggest goal for Miami this summer.
The LeBron situation kind of fell on their lap. Heading into this summer, no one in their right mind believed that the superstar forward would even be an option for the Heat. The overwhelming focus was on finding a star player to build next to Bam.
Giannis quickly emerged as the team's top priority over the last few months. Finally, after a month-long saga, the Heat got it done. At that point, that's when the LeBron possibility began to gain some legs.
And even though there was a growing sentiment around the Heat that they liked their chances of luring LeBron back to Miami, it'd be foolish to suggest that anyone was truly heartbroken with his decision.
That's what Bam is alluding to here. It would've been nice for LeBron to join the team, but no one is losing sleep over his decision not to.
LeBron's decision has little-to-no impact on the Heat
LeBron's decision doesn't change anything for the Heat. Even if LeBron had signed, Miami still needed to add another shooter. They still had Klay Thompson as a priority. That continues to be the case even after LeBron's move to Philly.
If anything, this move may make the Heat even less of a primary target in the Eastern Conference. With two loaded teams in the New York Knicks and Philadelphia 76ers, the Heat will be able to play the underdog role, which has led them to much success in the past.
And doing so with Giannis now in the fold will only add fuel to the fire for this Heat team this season.
So, no, Bam isn't too let down by LeBron's decision. Considering how strong Miami's summer started off, how could he be?
