As the 2026 NBA Draft officially got underway, the Miami Heat's final package for Giannis Antetokounmpo just got a little clearer.
The Heat technically made a selection with the No. 13 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. But everyone knows that the selection, who ended up being Nate Ament out of Tennessee, will officially be included in a package to the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Now that Ament has become the No. 13 pick, the Heat's winning offer for Giannis can be updated as follows: Heat will send Kel'el Ware, Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, Ament, two future first-round picks (2031, 2033), one pick swap (2030), and one second-round pick (2033).
Heat's much-criticized offer for Giannis was headlined by the 13th pick
From a good portion of the NBA national media at large, this is a trade package that has been seriously criticized. But at least part of the reason why the Bucks ended up selecting the Heat's offer over the Boston Celtics' offer was the 13th pick.
In what has been labeled as one of the strongest draft classes in recent history, the 13th pick in this year's draft could be considered a top 10 in most others. That's how deep the talent pool is.
Depending on how Ament pans out over the next few years, there's reason to believe that his development could play a big role in how this package will be remembered in most NBA circles.
The Heat were awfully willing to take that risk.
The Heat have gone all-in on Giannis Antetokounmpo
If it wasn't firmly the case before, it certainly is now. I don't think it can be debated that the Heat aren't all-in on Giannis. Parting ways with the No. 13 overall pick in this year's loaded draft isn't the only sign of that. It's also the fact that the Heat just gave away control of their draft future from 2030-33. That proves the Heat believe in what they're building right now.
And that all started with the blockbuster move for Giannis.
Time will ultimately tell how this trade will end up aging, and Ament, the 13th pick in this year's draft, will end up playing a big factor in that, but the Heat clearly has full confidence in Giannis' ability to be a 1A player on a championship-caliber team once again.
After this deal, both the Heat and the Bucks felt this was a move that gave them the best chance to accomplish what they wanted to do moving forward. It will certainly be interesting to see how this will all play out and what this trade package will eventually evolve into.
And on the 2026 NBA Draft night, another piece of it was just revealed.
