Giannis Antetokounmpo is locked in for this upcoming season with the Miami Heat. And his latest message via social media just proved that and perhaps gives his doubters another reason why they could end up being extremely wrong about his latest career move.
"Critics have seats. Champions have scars.”
That's what Giannis posted in his most recent social media post while sharing photos of him training with his new Heat teammates. Honestly, I'm not really sure what that means exactly, but it speaks to how focused he appears to be heading into this first season with the Heat.
Giannis has been criticized all summer long
Giannis was traded to the Heat at the start of this offseason, but he took a fair share of criticism for the way he handled his entire trade saga, which stretched back all the way to last winter. Regardless, Giannis is now a member of the Heat and is ready to embrace this new chapter of his career.
All summer long, many have been quick to take jabs at Giannis for his leadership skills, his lack of awareness (with the way he handled the trade saga), and whether he still has enough to carry a team to a championship.
He knows that, so does the Heat. And that's part of the reason why both sides are going to have a huge chip on their shoulder heading into the start of this season. And this most recent social media captain does speak to that.
Giannis acknowledges all the criticisms that he's received this summer, and also the work that he's put in that no one has seen yet.
In a way, it could be said that Giannis is telling his critics that they can sit on the sidelines and judge all they want. But they're not the ones taking on the risk or having to endure the difficult "scars" that champions do. Whether it's the failures, the losses, or the added pressure, those are the "scars" that champions must go through to get their crown.
Giannis is laser-focused on this season
So that's the mindset that Giannis seems to be channeling as he prepares for what may be the most pressure-filled season of his career thus far.
Whether you agree with Giannis or not. Like him or not. Still believe he has the capability to be the best player on a championship team. The reality is, Giannis is putting in the work to get there.
And if he's at his best, the Heat are going to have a shot at being there at the end. A locked-in Giannis is not something that the rest of the league may be fully prepared for. Especially not his doubters.
