Miami Heat fans loved their first day of the Giannis Antetokounmpo experience. I'm not so sure if that will be the case after day two. That's because shortly after Heat practice, Giannis made a comment that will naturally birth a new irrational fear for fans.
When asked about what he thought of his experience so far with the Heat, he talked about how new it was to him and the importance of leaving a mark. But then, toward the end, he said, "If I'm only here for a year or two," and that portion of his comments took on a life of its own.
As expected. And even though it's probably much ado about nothing, it's naturally going to make Heat fans feel nervous about this entire experiment until he signs that contract extension.

Should Heat fans be fearful about Giannis' commitment?
For those who are familiar with Giannis, these comments shouldn't be that surprising. Since the trade to Miami, Giannis has made a similar comment or two about what this second chapter of his career will look like.
Part of it could be the fact that Giannis is still so uncomfortable with it all, and another part is that since the trade to the Heat, he's learned that nothing in this profession is guaranteed. Whatever it is, it's not something that is going to make Heat fans feel any better about his contract situation.
Even though you can't imagine that the Heat would've traded all their assets without the assurance that he's at least going to sign one contract extension in Miami, the fact is that he only has one (guaranteed) year left on his contract.
And until he signs that contract extension, which he's eligible to do in January, you can bet that many Heat fans will be holding their collective breath.
Again, this is probably nothing for Heat fans to worry about, but it's naturally going to make national headlines and will likely be something that Giannis is going to be asked about again. And if he keeps declining to talk about the extension, as he did on Media Day, this irrational fear may spiral into a legit one.
