The evidence is continuing to mount, and it's hard to ignore that it may be time for the Miami Heat to blow it all up and start a complete rebuilding of the roster. At this point, not even fans can argue against it.
The Heat has generally been a franchise that has pushed back against the idea of complete rebuilding of the roster, but it may be the only chance that this franchise has at building a championship contender again.
Long are the days of striking gold in free agency, and this team is not in a situation where it has the assets to win a bidding war for any superstar that were to hit the trade block. Given how the last few offseasons have gone, even when stars have preferred to be traded to the Heat, they haven't been able to close the door on any of those deals.
In short, if the Heat truly is interested in building a contender again, it may be time to hit the hard reset button. It might be the only feasible path forward.
The Heat need a new core to build around
But we're not just talking about trading veterans for future assets. There's a scenario where the Heat may have to break up their core of Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo. This is a duo that has not had much success together recently, and one whose ceiling does appear a bit limited.
Without Jimmy Butler, a Heat team led by Herro and Bam has been, at best, a .500 squad. That's simply not good enough.
Because of that, there's reason to believe that the front office has seen enough from Herro and Bam, and knows that continuing to build around these two players may only result in more headaches than answers.
When talking about blowing up the roster, this is what it consists of.
Sure, the Heat could trade veterans like Andrew Wiggins and even Norman Powell ahead of the NBA Trade Deadline, but that doesn't change the trajectory of this team without a bigger move. And no, it doesn't appear as if Giannis Antetokounmpo is ever going to demand a trade out of Milwaukee, and I have a hard time believing that a singular move for Ja Morant will significantly change the future for this team, even if they are able to retain Herro and Bam in such a move.
Even though the Heat's front office may not completely agree just yet when it comes to whether it's time to hit the hard reset button or not, I almost guarantee that there have been conversations about this reality. And if something doesn't change quickly, the Heat won't have any other option but to head down this path.
