As the noise surrounding a potential Giannis Antetokounmpo trade grows louder, Miami Heat fans had better start hoping that he pushes for a trade soon. Because, if not, this is looking like another one of those pursuits that will only end in heartbreak.
The longer this saga extends, and the more teams that jump in, the less likely it is for the Heat to be the last team standing in a bidding war. Over the last few days, teams like the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers have been floated as real potential suitors.
That list could quickly expand depending on what happens with the New York Knicks in the NBA Finals and how the Western Conference Finals turn out.
In short, none of that is good news for the Heat.
Things have shifted quickly in the Heat's pursuit for Giannis
The Heat may have been sitting pretty a week or two ago, perhaps thinking that the early market for Giannis was going to be just as "underwhelming" as it was at the NBA Trade Deadline. However, all of a sudden, that could be changing quickly.
But if Giannis pushes for a trade sooner rather than later, and specifically to the Heat, maybe that won't matter.
After all, it's hard to envision the Bucks trading Giannis to a team that he doesn't really want to play for. If Giannis uses his influence to push for a trade to Miami, not only will it give the Heat a better shot to pull off a deal, but it will also expedite this entire process.
This is one of those pursuits that feels as if it happens quickly; the Heat could very well be the ultimate winners. The longer this stretches out, and the more teams that are involved, the Heat's chances can only suffer.
The pressure continues to mount for the Heat
That's what we've seen - and felt - within the fan base over the last couple of days. Confidence is waning, and overall goodwill is shrinking. It can be said that the pressure has certainly ratcheted up over the last few days.
But, honestly, that shouldn't be all that surprising. It's difficult to pull off these types of moves. There's a reason why superstar trades don't happen every year. Especially how much the Heat has been stung in the recent past, this was never going to be easy. Or simple.
Even with all that understood, there's no question that the Heat would greatly benefit from a little help from the superstar forward himself.
The Heat are clearly in the running for Giannis, but a little bump could help put them over the top and finally get this done. If not, there's really no guarantee, especially given their recent track record, that they will.
