Even though it may still feel difficult to believe for the most jaded of Miami Heat fans, the reality is that the team's Giannis Antetokounmpo pipe dream may be starting to fall into place.

Believe it or not, the Heat have a real shot at landing Giannis if he does end up being traded this summer. Just a couple of years ago, I'm not sure if anyone believed this was possible at all. Now, the Heat may very well be at the doorstep of a blockbuster trade that would completely transform the franchise.

All that said, walking through that door will be a lot easier said than done. Especially if the Heat's biggest competition at Giannis is indeed the Boston Celtics.

But even the mere shot at it is something the Heat can't take for granted. Players like Giannis rarely become available in the NBA. The fact that the Heat will have a puncher's shot at this pipe dream they've been building toward, hoping it would arise, over the last few years, is a testament in itself.

Giannis' two preferred destinations are the Heat and Celtics

According to NBA insider Marc Stein, it's believed that the Heat and Celtics are two teams that may intrigue Giannis the most. That could certainly change over the next few weeks, at least for now, and assuming this report is accurate, it does seem as if the chase for Giannis could come down to these two teams.

That should give the Heat real confidence that they may end up finding a path toward getting a deal done.

If you had told the Heat front office years ago that during the summer of 2026, they'd be one of the two teams with the best chance of landing Giannis via trade, they'd take those odds 100 out of 100 times.

It's on the Heat to close the deal.

Can the Heat outbid the Celtics?

But I suppose that's where the real problem lies. Because, in theory, if both the Heat and Celtics are "all-in" for Giannis, it's hard to envision how Miami emerges as the winner in this bidding war.

That's the biggest part that makes Heat fans bullish on the idea that they'll be able to land Giannis. Then again, it may not be that simple.

We don't know how "all-in" the Celtics are willing to be in their pursuit of Giannis, and we have no idea what type of influence Giannis may end up having on a trade. Could he push his way toward one team over the other? And what would that mean for the Heat and Celtics?

Even though it feels we're inching closer to the conclusion of the Giannis saga, there's still much that needs to be settled. But for the Heat's sake, it does feel they have a good shot at finally seeing this dream scenario through.

Let's just put it this way: There's a very real chance Giannis will be a member of the Heat in a few weeks. That can't be overstated enough.
