The Miami Heat finally know when the agony of the Giannis Antetokounmpo saga will come to an end—or at least when the Milwaukee Bucks claim it will. Miami has been linked to Antetokounmpo in trade rumors and speculation pieces for longer than some players have been on their roster, but Milwaukee has thus far been reluctant to move their franchise player.
With a new head coach and a dreadful 2025-26 season behind them, however, the Bucks appear to have a target date in mind for a final decision on Antetokounmpo's future: The 2026 NBA Draft.
Milwaukee finished the 2025-26 season at 32-50. Antetokounmpo missing 46 games certainly played a part in their shortcomings, but the Bucks haven't exactly built a roster that suggests the 31-year-old can expect an immediate return to contending.
Bucks co-owner Jimmy Haslam discussed Milwaukee's future following Taylor Jenkins' introduction as the franchise's new head coach, making the noteworthy comment that the Bucks would like to make a decision on Antetokounmpo before the draft.

If the Bucks ultimately decide that it's time to move on from the two-time NBA MVP, then the Heat will likely be near the top of the list of interested suitors.
Bucks aim to decide Giannis' future before NBA Draft
Milwaukee has an interesting assortment of talent with the likes of Antetokounmpo, Ryan Rollins, and Myles Turner leading the charge. Unfortunately, it also has unfavorable contracts, questionable talent fits, and a cast of generally young supporting players who may not yet be ready to help Antetokounmpo contend.
As Haslam noted, that's positioned the Bucks to ideally prioritize assets around the time of the NBA Draft should they decide to trade Antetokounmpo.
That's made Miami quite an interesting team to consider as a potential Milwaukee trade partner. The Heat could offer 2029 and 2031 first-round draft picks, and could swap the draft rights to a player they select on the night of the 2026 NBA Draft.
The Heat, of course, are equipped with a 2026 lottery pick that could prove attractive to a Bucks team that needs to reload with promising up-and-comers.
It's unclear what Milwaukee will look for beyond draft compensation, nor is it known what Miami would be willing to offer at this juncture. One would have to imagine Kel'el Ware would be included in negotiations in some regard, due in no small part to his talent, youth, and the fact that Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo would form an elite interior duo.
If the Heat are willing and able to make the type of offer that the Bucks are looking for, however, then Antetokounmpo could finally come to Miami by the end of the 2026 NBA Draft.
