Heat may have won the NBA Draft Lottery without even realizing it

The Miami Heat didn't move up in the 2026 NBA Draft Lottery, but they still may have just emerged as big winners, considering the Golden State Warriors and Milwaukee Bucks both stayed put outside the top 10.

The Bucks moving into the top 3 and perhaps even all the way up to No. 1 could be a great selling point to Giannis Antetokounmpo this summer. That didn't happen, and now they face an even steeper task to sell him on the team's future.

Secondly, the Warriors, who are expected to be a huge suitor for Giannis, didn't see their draft pick improve at all either. No one is really talking about this, but those are two huge wins for the Heat, even though they, too, held still at No. 13.

The Heat may still have the best trade offer for Giannis

The fact is that, after the draft lottery, the Heat still may very well have the best trade offer for Giannis on the table. If that was the case at the NBA Trade Deadline, there's not much that has changed since then.

Unless, of course, other suitors are expected to crash the bidding war.

While, in theory, that's a very realistic possibility, there's no evidence that it will be the case, yet. Of course, other than the Houston Rockets potentially being in play after their disappointing showing in the NBA Playoffs. But even that is far from a guarantee.

Will other suitors jump in for Giannis?

The New York Knicks have punched their ticket to the Eastern Conference Finals and may very well be ready to finally break through to the NBA Finals. The Minnesota Timberwolves are going toe-to-toe with the San Antonio Spurs at the moment. The Spurs are unlikely to break up what they have going, as unlikely as the Oklahoma City Thunder are.

It was also reported that the Atlanta Hawks aren't likely to pursue Giannis either.

That leaves the Warriors, Heat, and Rockets? Maybe there's another dark horse threat out there, like the Toronto Raptors or Brooklyn Nets, but neither of those situations is significantly better than the Heat at the moment.

And that should give even more confidence to Miami's front office heading into an offseason that many are considering to be Giannis-or-bust.

Make no mistake; there's still a ton of work to be done. But if Giannis does end up getting traded this offseason, the Heat are going to be able to put out a strong offer on the table. Whether it ends up being the best remains to be seen, but it will be significant.

And what transpired at the NBA Draft Lottery may have worked in their favor, moving them one step closer to their dream acquisition of Giannis.
