It’s already been an insane NBA offseason. Tons of moves have been made. And yet, there’s still more to come. LeBron James has still yet to decide which team he will sign with this summer, but the Miami Heat could be positioning themselves well to land him. At least, that’s what Sam Amick of The Athletic believes.
During an appearance on The Sports Leader, Amick stated that he heard from someone that they heard that the Heat are in the lead to land James this summer: “I had somebody tell me today that ‘I had one of the other teams tell me that they believe Miami is in the lead.’”
Obviously, that’s not the nail in the coffin. James isn’t definitely heading to Miami now. But it should definitely make Heat fans feel at least somewhat good about their team’s chances.
Heat may be in the lead to sign LeBron James
James is 41 years old. He’s nowhere near the player he was the last time he suited up for the Heat. Back when he led them to two NBA Championships alongside Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.
However, after nearly a decade in Los Angeles, James is ready to move on, and he’s still playing at a high level. An All-Star level. And he would definitely be a solid addition to Miami’s current roster.
The Heat have already made their splash for the summer. They shipped out Tyler Herro, a ton of players, and a ton of draft picks to the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for Giannis Antetokounmpo.
He and Bam Adebayo are set to lead the Heat into next season, but Miami still needs to fill out the rest of its roster. And adding James to the mix would definitely be intriguing.
Though bringing James in as part of the team’s starting lineup would leave them without great spacing, there is no denying how impactful James’ offensive organization would be, especially if he were to be Miami’s lead ball-handler.
Plus, if there were any tandem in the NBA that could make up for James’ defensive deficiencies at age 41, it would be a frontcourt composed of Antetokounmpo and Adebayo.
If Amick’s latest report is true, and the Heat truly are in the lead to land James this summer, it would be great. He could really help them, especially on the offensive end of the court.
The fit isn’t perfect, but James’ talent is undeniable, and the return story would be absolutely incredible.
