With conflicting reporting surrounding whether the Miami Heat is interested in Ja Morant or not, one thing is quickly becoming clear as his trade value appears at an all-time low. It's the fact that if the Heat wants to go down that road, there's a pretty clear path to make it happen.
As the Memphis Grizzlies scramble to find a new home for Morant, ESPN's Brian Windhorst stopped just short of revealing that the former All-Star guard has probably played his last game for the franchise and that Memphis is desperately trying to find a trade partner.
But even with Morant very clearly on the trade block and likely for pennies on the dollar, there's no certainty on how interested the Heat may or may not be.
Are the Heat playing coy on the Ja Morant front?
NBA insider Jake Fischer suggests that a move for Morant may not be completely off the table for the Heat. On the other hand, local reporting and national NBA scribe Marc Stein hints at the idea that the Heat's "interest" in Morant was just not accurate.
Again, no one really knows where the Heat stands on Morant. And that's one of the biggest reasons why this possibility could be considered one of the more intriguing potential outcomes for the Heat after pulling off the move for Giannis Antetokounmpo.
It could be difficult for Miami to pull off from a financial standpoint, but it would almost certainly have to involve parting ways with Andrew Wiggins and Nikola Jovic. There is technically a path if the Heat wants to go down this route.
While there's no guarantee that a trio of Morant, Giannis, and Bam Adebayo would thrive together in Miami, it'd certainly be one of the most interesting storylines heading into the start of the new season.
And if this is indeed a possibility on the table for the Heat, it would objectively be a poor job from the front office not to explore it. In fact, especially with how the rumor mill has been churning over the last few weeks, you can bet that the front office has had immense discussions about this possibility.
The Heat's front office will have options in how to build around Giannis
Ultimately, this decision will come down to what the Heat front office wants the supporting cast around Giannis and Bam to look like. Do they want to essentially burn two quality players like Wiggins and Jovic on Morant? Would that even be enough of an offer for the Grizzlies to accept?
It's hard to tell at the moment, but, especially after pulling off the move for Giannis, it's impossible to count the Heat out when it comes to Morant.
If the Heat wants to go down this path, it's becoming more and more like a realistic possibility. At the very least, it's certainly one thing to keep a close eye on as this front office begins to build around their new dynamic duo.
Morant is there for the taking. The question is, will the Heat take the bait?
