The 2026 NBA Draft. The Miami Heat, seemingly, have between now and then to figure out if they can pry Giannis Antetokounmpo away from the Milwaukee Bucks. Realistically speaking, the Heat's chances of landing Giannis would only increase if they can move up in the draft lottery, too.

Miami has finally received that much-needed clarity on the Giannis front after Bucks co-owner Jimmy Haslam made some shocking comments about a potential timeline for a trade.

In short, there may be an expectation that a trade for Giannis, if one is even happening, would be completed by the 2026 NBA Draft. If so, not only does this give the Heat a timeline, but it also quietly delivers them somewhat of a blueprint of what the Bucks will be looking for.

"So sometime over the next six or seven weeks, we'll decide whether Giannis is going to sign a max contract and stay with us, or he's going to play somewhere else."

Giannis could be traded at the 2026 NBA Draft

If the Bucks are looking to come to a decision, one way or another, by the draft, it's clear what they're going to be seeking. Significant draft capital. At the very least, the Bucks will be seeking another pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, and preferably in the lottery.

That could be good news for the Heat, who currently own the 13th overall pick. That could improve if they get lucky at the NBA Draft Lottery.

Either way, it's looking more and more like the Heat are going to get some clarity on the Giannis situation sooner rather than later. And if there's some sort of resolution, either way, by the NBA Draft, that could bode extremely well for the Heat. Even if they don't land Giannis.

The Heat's offseason plan will depend on Giannis

Closing the door on the Giannis dream could allow the front office to move on to other fronts (Kawhi Leonard, Ja Morant, etc). It would give the Heat's front office the rest of the offseason to figure their future out.

On the more optimistic side of things, landing Giannis at the NBA Draft would also give the Heat's front office the rest of the summer to find the right pieces around him. In many ways, this latest development is a best-case scenario for the Heat. Good or bad.

The last thing the front office needed was for this to linger all offseason long, with the possibility of leaving this team in limbo, once again, heading into another season.

But now that there appears to be somewhat of a concrete timeline for a Giannis decision, it's on the Heat to make their push. It's now or never. No matter what happens between now and the NBA Draft, at least fans can rest in the solace that there will be Giannis closure soon.
