Sometimes change is good, but there are also moments in which change is necessary. The Miami Heat may have finally arrived at that point.
At this stage, it does seem as if change would be both good and necessary for a Heat team that continues to struggle to find a real identity. Nothing seems to be clicking for Miami right now, and everything that seemed to be going "right" for them at the beginning of the season has gone by the wayside.
Even though the Heat is still one game above .500, the team's last three losses tell a grim story of where this team is. Over the last three games, the Heat has lost by a combined 64 points to the Minnesota Timberwolves, Indiana Pacers, and Oklahoma City Thunder.
Miami has hit an extremely troubling stretch this season, and is just 6-12 in its last 18 games. Even in a weakened Eastern Conference, the Heat, at best, may be able to battle for the sixth seed, but they're buying into fool's gold if they believe they have any shot to make any noise in the postseason, if they were to even get there.
The Heat could use a fresh injection of talent
That's why heading into the NBA Trade Deadline season, it's reasonable to believe that the Heat desperately needs to make a change to their roster. In a perfect world, they'd be able to add a star-level talent to shake up things in the locker room.
But, especially as we've seen play out for Miami over the last few seasons, that may be a lot easier said than done.
For a franchise that doesn't necessarily like to make offshoot trades just for the sake of change, I'd argue they should rethink that philosophy heading into this trade season. Because there's reason to believe that this specific team could benefit from some change.
Specifically at the heart of their core. The duo of Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo has left a lot to be desired over the last two seasons, and it's difficult to envision how much of that is going to change heading into the second half of this season.
I wouldn't say this is a call to trade Herro or Bam, but it shouldn't be completely off the table if the right deal does present itself. Or, if the Heat could find a way to make it happen, adding to this core with a star-level talent could also help bring about the change that is desired in Miami.
Again, it's hard to predict how exactly that change is going to come, or how it would be most effective, but it's certainly needed for the Heat.
