The New York Knicks signed Bruce Brown, John Konchar, James Wiseman, Ochai Agbaji, and Drew Eubanks to training camp deals. Those are the types of signings the Miami Heat should be looking to attract this summer. The Heat need guys who are willing to come to town just so they can have a chance to compete for a title with Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo. Sort of like Klay Thompson.
There's a reason that Thompson signed with the Heat. One, he wanted the opportunity to play a ton of minutes, and two, he wanted the chance to compete for a championship. Antetokounmpo is one of the best players in the world, and he has the type of draw to attract players who want to ring chase. Miami would have to clear roster space, but for the right player, they could.
That's not exactly what happened with Brown and the others who probably want a chance to play, but joining the Knicks on a training camp deal clearly has something to do with the status of the team.

It's natural for veteran players to want to join the best teams. Obviously, some want a chance to play real minutes, but others just want a chance to win a ring late in their career.
The Knicks, fresh off a 2026 NBA championship run, are a prime destination for those guys who want to chase a ring. The difference is, the Heat actually have playing time to dole out.
The Knicks’ rotation is all but set. They already have plenty of guys on the roster who are going to take up all of the playing time. New York's new guys are effectively fighting for scrap minutes.
The difference is, Miami could have actually given the minutes. Perhaps they didn't want to sign those specific players, but they could use some extra depth pieces via veterans looking to compete for a title while also receiving real minutes.
Again, that's the situation that Thompson was drawn to. He'll get a chance to compete for a deep playoff push with a great coach and great staff, but he'll also get the chance to play real minutes in Miami.
So, even though the Knicks' new signings are now joining them for training camp instead of clinging to a team like the Heat, who could have used more of a veteran presence in their actual rotation, Miami should still keep its eyes out.
Because if there are any other veterans on the market looking for a chance to play and compete, then the Heat should be ready to pitch them.
