At this point in his career, Kyrie Irving isn’t the player he once was. Not even close. He’s not an All-NBA guy. He’s probably not even an All-Star. But in the right situation, he can still be great. And the Miami Heat are the perfect situation. He would solve so many of their problems. And there might be some mutual interest there. If Miami gets desperate enough amid its rough start to the new year, an Irving trade should be considered.

During an episode of the Five on the Floor podcast, Ethan J. Skolnik mentioned that Irving could have some level of interest in playing fo the Heat: “I think we've both heard that he's interested in playing down in Miami. I also know Spoelstra holds him in very high regard. I know there are concerns about other stuff.” Should the Dallas Mavericks decide to throw him on the trade block this year, the Heat should definitely be a team to show some interest

It’s been a rough year for Miami so far, but adding a shot-creator and playmaker of Irving’s caliber would definitely help turn things around.

Heat should consider a Kyrie Irving trade

Irving spent all of last year recovering from a torn ACL. And this season, he finally made his return to the court for the Mavs. He’s appeared in four of their five games so far.

In his four appearances, Irving has averaged 18.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 3.8 assists while shooting 49.1% from the field and 33.3% from deep on 8.3 3-point attempts per game.

Again, this isn’t the same Irving that once was. That helped the Mavs make the NBA Finals. That won a championship with LeBron James and Kevin Love on the Cleveland Cavaliers.

However, Irving is still the exact type of player who could help the Heat, as Miami hasn’t exactly had the best start to its new, Giannis Antetokounmpo-led campaign.

Miami has struggled to piece wins together. The Heat have taken home just one victory in their first five games, and they haven’t managed to suck much offense out of the non-Antetokounmpo part of the roster. Even Bam Adebayo has struggled.

Adding a guy like Irving, who can help set up the offense and is still great at creating for himself, would give the Heat a massive, much-needed boost on the offensive side of the ball.

Obviously, it would cost a lot to bring Irving to town, especially considering he makes $39.5 million this year. But if the Heat get desperate enough, he’s certainly someone they should consider.

It’s not a perfect fit, but it’s pretty close to it.
