The Miami Heat are still riding high after the acquisition of Giannis Antetokounmpo this offseason, but there's one recent rumor that suggests there could be another big move coming. As has been the case before, the Heat have, once again, been linked to Kyrie Irving before the season even begins.
In recent months, there's been speculation that Kyrie could be on the move, considering the Dallas Mavericks are deeper into their rebuild than initially thought. Depending on how the season begins for Dallas, Kyrie could find himself on the trade block (whether that's Dallas' decision or Kyrie's) sooner rather than later.
And according to NBA insider Jake Fischer, if that were to be the case, the Heat are certainly one team to keep a close eye on.
“There’s already been some rumblings of the Heat having interest in him...Miami with their point guard depth — are the early spots that people around the league are looking at as potential Kyrie Irving trade destinations.”

It's not necessarily surprising that the Heat would be linked to a star player. And, at least on the surface, it does feel as if this is more speculation than anything else. But if there's even a small chance that Miami would A) put together enough tradable assets to make such a move, and B) that they would consider making a trade for Kyrie, this is all the intrigue that is needed.
Because, in theory, this could be one of those trades that would be considered a "final piece" move after Giannis.
The foundation that the Heat has set with Giannis and Bam Adebayo is great. There's no denying that, especially with how training camp has begun for them. However, especially when looking around the league, there is reason to believe that the Heat may still be a piece or two away from contending with the elite of the elite.
The Heat may not need another outside star to close that gap, especially if a player like Pelle Larsson could make a big jump in his development, but there's no question that an addition of Kyrie would certainly expedite that process.
Especially considering the huge "need" that the Heat have with playmaking and at the point guard position, there is more than one reason why Kyrie could make sense for Miami.
At the very least, it's one situation to keep an eye on. If he does become available, you can bet the Heat would inquire. Even more so if they do believe it's one move that could take them from a dark-horse championship contender to one of the favorites in the Eastern Conference.
