ESPN's Brian Windhorst may have finally said it. Giannis Antetokounmpo wants to be traded to the Miami Heat.
Or, at least, that's what it feels like. That's the way things are trending. Either way, Windy finally said it out loud on a recent hit on ESPN's Get Up. It's something that the Heat (and, particularly, the fans) have been waiting to hear. Scratch that, they've been begging to hear.
And, sure, Windy likely said this because that's what his reporting is pointing to. I'm not sure if he knows point-blank that Giannis is pushing for a trade to the Heat (although he could be), but it's the idea that with how everything seems to be lining up, that's the way things appear.
The Heat make a lot of sense for Giannis Antetokounmpo
Honestly, it's hard to blame Windy for making that leap. Over the past few weeks, there has been a ton of momentum that has been built up for Miami in its pursuit of Giannis.
They also just happen to check most, if not all, of Giannis' boxes as a potential preferred destination.
Miami has sun. They're in the Eastern Conference. They have another star player that Giannis can build with already on the roster. They're one of the best-run organizations in the league, and also happen to have one of the best head coaches in the NBA.
Are there questions about how they're going to build around Bam Adebayo and Giannis if this trade goes through? Absolutely. I don't think anyone would particularly push back on those questions.
But, in theory, the Heat have everything that Giannis might be looking for in this next chapter of his career.
Expect more twists in the Giannis saga before it's over
Again, that doesn't guarantee that the Heat are going to land Giannis by any means. But, especially if there isn't this vast market for Giannis, that means the Heat do have a pretty good chance of getting something done. Even more so if the Heat is a team that Giannis might be pushing for behind the scenes.
I'm sure there will be a few more twists and turns in this saga before its conclusion; there always is. I can't imagine the Giannis saga is going to end this quietly.
However, at least for now, the Heat seem to be gaining a ton of momentum as a favorite for Giannis.
But, as the Heat have fallen into this fallacy before, that doesn't guarantee them anything. They still need to close this deal. And until that happens, fans can't celebrate anything. For what it's worth, though, it should feel good to hear that Giannis may want to be in Miami.
Now it's time to make it happen.
