Because of the team's pursuit of Giannis Antetokounmpo and the premature decision to extend Nikola Jovic (which looks like a big mistake), there's reason to believe that the Pelle Larsson decision complicates the Miami Heat's offseason much more than fans realize.

In the final year of his contract, it would be a smart play for the Heat to extend Larsson. Especially considering how he's viewed as a player on the rise after taking a big step forward this past season.

But, again, that's not a open and shut case because of other mitigating factors.

Where Pelle Larsson becomes complicated for the Heat

Depending on what ends up happening with Giannis and whether or not Jovic and/or Jaime Jaquez Jr. are still on the roster, Larsson's future with the Heat is much more cloudy than perhaps it should be right now.

In a perfect world, the Heat would view Larsson as a strong supporting piece of the future with or without Giannis. But that gets more complicated for the Heat to answer depending on what happens on the Giannis front.

If he's landed, the Heat could be left penny-pinching when it comes to building around their new dynamic duo, and that could close the door toward a lucrative extension for Larsson. And if he believes he could get a bigger contract than what the Heat may be willing to offer, Larsson could look to test restricted free agency.

If Giannis isn't walking through the door for the Heat, there could still be complicated reservations about signing Larsson to a long-term extension. That's not necessarily a knock on Larsson himself, but a reflection on past decisions that the Heat has made.

Heat may have to decide between Jaquez Jr. and Larsson

Most notoriously, the move to sign Jovic to an extension that he clearly didn't live up to this past season. Add in the necessity to sign Jaquez Jr. to an extension, if he's still on this roster, and the Heat's offseason decisions will naturally get more conflicted.

Honestly, these are complexities that most fans don't realize at the moment, nor is it a factor that they're willing to give much credence to. After all, it's the front office's job to get these moves right.

In the end, with so much uncertainty on the Giannis front, it's almost impossible to predict how this offseason will play out for the Heat. And that certainly includes Larsson at the heart of one of the Heat's bigger questions.

And, whether fans are willing to believe it or not, Larsson's extension decision adds another layer of complication for the Heat's front office this offseason.
