The Miami Heat were the big winners of the Giannis Antetokounmpo sweepstakes.

While this is the one trade that should inject excitement back into the Heat's franchise, not everyone believes it's a move that will pay off for all sides involved.

In the end, the Giannis sweepstakes was a two-team race. Despite the Heat's limited assets, they still managed to beat out the Celtics in a good old-fashioned bidding war. The Heat still undoubtedly gave up a lot for Giannis, which is why long-time NBA reporter turned sports television personality Chris Broussard questioned the move even before it came to fruition.

FS1's Chris Broussard asks one important question about Giannis Antetokounmpo's interest in the Miami Heat

Why? It's a simple question, really; why? Why the Heat, Giannis? Broussard offered a lengthier, more detailed explanation of his thinking this week during an episode of First Things First, one that questioned Antetokounmpo's reasoning for picking the Heat as a team he would extend with.

In terms of franchise pedigree, reputation, culture, and elite coaching, the Heat should be a destination for any superstar, as it has been in the past. Not to mention, living in Miami is a huge draw. That said, for someone like Giannis, the asking price was going to deplete the Heat. For the most part, it did.

Furthermore, there's also no guarantee that Miami would be instant championship contenders.

Broussard's line of thinking focuses on championship contention, as he shared his perspective on Giannis, and the Bucks superstar reportedly named the Heat and the Celtics as among his preferred trade destinations.

"I just don't understand why Giannis, with all due respect to the Heat, wants to go to Miami," Broussard said. "Obviously, it's a great place to live, it is a strong organization, Erik Spoelstra's a great coach, but it's going to essentially be Milwaukee South."

What Broussard is saying is that playing with the Heat will be essentially the same as if Giannis stayed with the Bucks. In other words, with either team, there is no chance of winning a title. Why would Giannis want to go somewhere where he has no chance of winning? Currently constructed, even after the Giannis trade, the Heat have work to do to build a contender.

Broussard would go on to say that the Celtics make much more sense due to the Jayson Tatum factor. Boston's best player next to Miami's current best player, Bam Adebayo; there's no argument who the greater player is. With Tatum, the Celtics could've won next season with Giannis.

With the Heat, that's no guarantee.

Time will tell if Broussard ends up being right, but, in a way, he did have a point. Now it's up to the Heat to prove him wrong.
