While there's no current timetable for when LeBron James will make his free-agency decision, it does feel close. And, at least up until now, the Miami Heat are seemingly one of the teams that LeBron is deciding between.
However, Rich Paul, LeBron's agent, may have just thrown another curveball in the pursuit of the superstar forward.
On a recent episode of his podcast, Paul said that he advised LeBron that he can't judge a team by what their roster looks like on paper now. Essentially stating that a lot can change between now and the push to the playoffs in January.
"My advice has been don’t just value the paper because the paper in July is different than when you get into training camp, when you get into January."

He also said that LeBron isn't going to rush into a decision, perhaps indicating that it could still be some time before anything is formally announced.
What does this all mean? It's anyone's guess at this point.
Was this Paul trying to dissuade LeBron from one particular team? Was this Paul trying to direct LeBron to another? Or maybe this was just Paul reminding LeBron that injuries, trades, and buyouts all genuinely change the way rosters look throughout the course of a season.
Is that good news for the Heat? Bad news?
Why this could help the Heat's case for LeBron
It's difficult to tell one way or another, but maybe it does work in Miami's favor. In theory, most believe that the Heat's roster is incomplete at this point. Whether it's the need for another playmaker or more shooting, and certainly more depth, Miami's front office is still trying to figure out what the supporting cast will look like around Giannis.
From a glass-half-full perspective, maybe LeBron will be reminded that even though the Heat's roster looks incomplete now, there's a good chance that still won't be the case in December and January.
In theory, there are other rosters that look much more complete than Miami's right now, but a lot can change in a few months. For the Heat, that's probably an argument that works in their favor as they try to land LeBron.
But, at that point, it would require a calculated amount of trust from LeBron. It's hard to say one way or another if that exists for the Heat at this moment.
Nevertheless, there's no question that this admission certainly adds even more intrigue to a potential LeBron decision. It feels close, but at the same time, as Paul iterated in this same podcast, no one really knows anything.
Except for LeBron.
