The Miami Heat haven't done much of anything at the start of free agency, but everything may have just changed for them with the stunning development in Milwaukee. After waiving Damian Lillard, Giannis Antetokounmpo is reportedly unhappy with the move. That's only going to feed into potential trade rumors for the superstar forward.
That's where the Heat can step in. Giannis has been a player the Heat has been long-linked to, but he's never truly leaned into requesting a trade from the Bucks. It's hard to say if that's going to suddenly change after what's happening in Milwaukee, but it 100 percent can.
Is Giannis ready to demand a trade?
At some point, you'd imagine that enough is going to be enough for Giannis. It wouldn't be surprising if the move to cut loose Lillard could be that. If Giannis were to demand a trade, you'd imagine that the Heat would, at the very least, factor into his potential landing spots somewhere.
How serious they'd emerge as a suitor for Giannis remains to be seen, but the Heat seem to always be in the picture one way or another. Even though Giannis was always considered to be a pipe dream for Miami, especially considering their limited assets, there's no question the situation in Milwaukee deserves closer attention heading into the remainder of the offseason.
The Bucks are doing whatever they can to appease Giannis. But they may have just cut the wrong cord. And the Heat have to be ecstatic if there's even a small chance that A) Giannis will have a change of heart and seriously consider a trade, and B) if the Heat would emerge as a preferred landing spot for the superstar forward.
At least at the moment, none of those would be guarantees. However, you can bet that Pat Riley and the rest of the Heat's front office are sitting in delight as the possibility of complete chaos slowly begins to hit Milwaukee's front office.
There may be a reason why the Heat has remained quiet through the first wave of free agency. Perhaps that reason is Giannis.
